It began as an idea over dinner, and as the hot North Carolina
summer of 1978 faded into the reds and yellows of autumn, 12 families
gathered together to follow a vision given by the Lord. Today, with more
than 2,700 members, Providence Baptist Church continues to follow that vision.
In the early years, Providence held their services at a local elementary school.
They moved two more times within the Raleigh, N.C., area before finding their
current home - the old Crown Royale Hotel. The hotel, which had undergone major
improvements before going bankrupt, had a convention hall (which is now the worship center),
a smaller amphitheater, a restaurant, two commercial-quality kitchens,
small meeting rooms and more than 300 guest rooms. After church members spent
four months sorting linens, moving mattresses, doing construction work and cleaning
hundreds of bathrooms, the first worship service in our current location was
held in January 1992.
The name Providence Baptist Church was decided on to denote the promise and vision
that had come from the Lord. As we begin our 28th year of ministry, His providence still guides and blesses us.
We continue to thank and praise Him for His tender
care of His children.
