A Quest for More

by Paul Tripp
Review by Jay Veverka

“Would you like your life to make a difference?” These words open Paul Tripp’s book, A Quest for More. From this question, Tripp launches into an exploration of the nature and need of the soul to live for something greater than itself. According to Tripp (and affirmed in the Scriptures), God has designed us to live for something greater than us: His glory. Yet in our sin, we seek to shrink the size of our lives down to the size of our lives. For Tripp, the primary image he uses throughout the book is that of kingdom; big kingdom living versus little kingdom living. While the first half explores the nature of these two kingdoms and calls the reader to reject little kingdom living to pursue the Kingdom of God, the second half of the book applies the reality of big kingdom living to our every day lives. The real turning point in the book occurs in chapter nine, a chapter entitled, “Welcome to Your Death.” Learning from Luke 9:23-26, Tripp challenges the reader with this statement, “The little kingdom promises life, but brings you death; the big kingdom requires your death, but gives you life.” This book brings familiar topics and themes to the reader in a fresh and challenging way. In a world so prone to self-focus and self-fulfillment, Tripp reminds us that to enjoy all that God has designed us to be and to find satisfaction in, we need look to Christ, take up our cross, and follow Him. This book will wrench your eyes off of yourself and onto Christ, resulting in adoration and excitement over our Savior and His call.
