Knowing God

by J.I. Packer
Review by Jay Veverka

J.I. Packer’s classic, Knowing God, combines the thinking of a sharp mind with the heart of a redeemed sinner in providing for the church a masterful work that will both challenge the reader to think deeply and follow fully the God of the Bible. In describing the book himself, Packer quotes Jeremiah 6:16, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” In the face of modern criticism and skepticism about God, Packer calls the reader back to “ancient paths” to know God and walk with Him through the everyday of life. All good theology is intensely practical – challenging us to not only think deep thoughts about God but to live lives of consequence for God. Packer’s Knowing God combines what we believe with how we live in a manner of great benefit to the reader and in my opinion it is a must read for every believer.
