Missio Dei: God's Mission for God's People
The God of the Bible is a missionary God. In the context of the Scriptures, "Missio Dei" correctly emphasizes that God is the initiator of His mission to redeem through His Son a special people for Himself from all the peoples of the world. God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, for this purpose and He sends the church into the world with the Gospel of Christ for the same purpose. Mission was not made for the church. The church was made for mission-God's mission. We were created and redeemed for this mission and not a mission of our own.
