Student Ministries

Parent Info
Our Purpose Statement - To spread the fame of God by raising up a godly generation through the cooperative efforts of family, friends and the family of faith—the power of three.

Family Devotions - The Providence Student Ministry, along with Pastor David Horner, our elders and the entire pastoral staff, have had a long-lasting vision to engage families in a consistent family worship time. The new Refinery curriculum is part of this vision to spur parents on in this vision. In his book Firmly Rooted, Faithfully Growing, Pastor Horner reiterates the place of the family in worship with this quote: "Churches cannot provide what families neglect…It is true the body of Christ should function as an equipping center and worshiping center to support and encourage members in fulfilling their familial spiritual duties. Yet in the scriptures, the main responsibility for such things rests primarily upon
the family." (pg. 60)

In our efforts to resource, train and involve parents, this fall we will begin offering a practical resource designed to give parents and students a systematic Bible reading strategy that will coincide with our Refuge and Refinery curriculum strategy. We believe parents are primary in the spiritual leadership of their families and we are encouraging all of our families to prioritize this spiritual discipline in their family life. We are asking you, the parents who serve as daily mentors and the primary disciplers of your children to value the importance of family worship. We are asking our families to devote one night a week to family worship with reading that will be provided for you. The average number of verses in a reading is 20-25, meaning that the time involved weekly for family worship will be 15-20 minutes. All we ask of you is to make the time and make family worship a priority in your home.

This plan is spread out over seven years and allows families in our ministry to read through the Bible before a student graduates. The reading plan is available online, so that older students in our ministry can continue with the plan even after they graduate. We believe this is a practical tool for family worship. Partner with us and let's continue investing in the spiritual heritage that God has commanded us to leave for generations to come.

Providence Media Guidelines

Parent Leadership Team - The Parent Leadership Team (PLT) meets on a semi-annual basis with the Providence Student Ministries staff for encouragement and perspective. The expectation is for this to be a parent-led ministry, observing student ministries and praying for the student leadership. At each meeting, we consider agendas as they relate to Providence's Student Ministries. If you have a possible agenda item that you would like for us to discuss, please e-mail it to Stephanie Briggs. There are six parent teams that
serve on the PLT.

Parent Meetings - Parent Meetings take place on a regular basis to keep parents of students informed and active. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
