Worship Ministry
Orchestra Auditions
We are always seeking instrumentalists to join us in serving with the Providence orchestra! If you would like to be involved with the orchestra, we would like to hear you! Even if it's been a few years since you've gotten your instrument out of the case, we would like to encourage you to come play for us!
The music we play is usually at a grade four or five level. We typically serve the church in a number of ways. First, by accompanying the congregation in our corporate times of worship. Second, we accompany the choir or soloists as they minister to the congregation. Third, we regularly play as an orchestra, serving as an instrumental call to worship, an offertory, or some other function, inviting people to engage their hearts in worship.
In addition to the weekly responsibilities, (the orchestra does not play every Sunday, but rehearses every Wednesday), the orchestra participates in various seasonal productions, such as the Christmas program, Palm Sunday, and Easter services. We also take individual sections out of the orchestra and use them for various purposes, such as a "string day," "brass choir," or contemporary horn section.
For auditions, we look for players who meet the following criteria:
- A minimum high school proficiency.
- Be prepared to play six major scales and a two octave chromatic scale.
- Prepare portions, 16 to 24 measures each, of two pieces of music. One that represents your technical facility and one that shows your melodic capabilities. If you do not have pieces such as these available, we can send you samples of some of the literature we currently play for you to prepare.
- We will provide a piece of music for you to sight read.
Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Limited childcare is provided. For more information, please contact Nan Honeycutt.
