“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” Proverbs 18:10
Tabatha, mom, sweetie, sister, Aunt Tabby… each name I hear elicits a different response and usually demands a different form of service. When I am out shopping and a stranger politely yet generically addresses me as ma’am, I automatically understand that they don’t know me or have a relationship with me. The closer the relationship the more precise the designation. God is gracious to us in that He gives us many different names to help us know Him more fully and communicate with him more personally.
Proverbs 18:10 tells us that, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” When we feel lonely we can remember the truth that our God is the God who sees. When we feel uncertain we can remember that our God is the God of all knowledge. When we feel lost we can remember that the Lord is our Shepherd. When we feel like things are falling apart we can remember that our God is the God of peace.
In our upcoming devotion series, we will be looking at the many different names that the Lord used to reveal Himself to His people in the Old Testament. As we examine the truths of His character that are displayed in His various names, our prayer is that we would not only remember the security, protection, and haven we have in our Heavenly Father, but also run to Him and trust Him to be our refuge.
