Barry & Lilia Phillips
Maria Aurora, Philippines
The goal of ACIS is to prepare Asians to reach Asia for Christ.
Their ministry began in 2000 in the remote Aurora Province of the Philippines. They started by meeting needs and using those efforts as a platform to share Christ. They built houses, dug wells, sponsored students, provided water purification systems, created a library, and made an effort to lift the burden of poverty from their poor neighbors. They’ve planted eleven churches, started an association, and now have a Bible school that specializes in creating intercultural missionaries
Aurora College of Intercultural Studies offers the best missionary training possible. Their students are immersed in local ministry as they prepare for intercultural missions. After their first year of studies, their students spend a summer in the Philippines with Nehemiah Teams in unreached communities. After their second year, they spend two months in Indochina (Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam.) They are trained to preach, to teach, and to share the Gospel in a variety of ways.
Pray for the needs of their students. They each need $20 monthly for dorm fees and an additional $15 monthly for food. Their families and home churches are poor, so there is typically no help for those who enroll.
Pray for their staff and faculty. They are taking classes on the weekends to obtain a "CHED accredited" degree as well as continuing in their teaching roles. This will affect their local ministries, as two of their faculty/staff are also local pastors.
Pray for their family. Barry's mother has advanced Alzheimer's Disease and has been in hospice care.
