Despair is the feeling of hopelessness and anguish that leads us to say, “My soul is full of troubles” (Psalm 88:3).
Despair is dangerous because it tempts us to settle, sin, or self-harm for relief. When feeling hopeless, many compromise, many turn to self-numbing (entertainment, shopping, drugs), and some turn to self-harm. Aligning our heart to the reality of God’s care is the can-opener of hope. He is eternally strong, entirely sincere, He forgives, defends, serves, and saves.
Jesus laid down His life to pay for our sin. He rose from the dead with an invitation to trust. This is our Shepherd, and this is the first step towards hope!
