CityServe: Fall 2022

Saturday, October 1

In the book of Jeremiah, God tells us that our welfare is tied to the welfare of our city. Through CityServe, we can each use our gifts and abilities to be a light in our community. Projects are listed below with more information on how you can intentionally serve our city.

Mercy Ministries

CLI Prison Alliance

We need warehouse workers and Bible Ministers. Come sort books that will support the work of CLI and Chaplains in prisons all over the country. Also, come see how God is expanding His reach in the prisons through Bible and Letter Ministers (Penpals) to disciple inmates.

Gateway Women's Care* (Raleigh)

Gain a better understanding of how the ministry serves women and saves babies via a short informational presentation.  We will do some campus beautification as well.   Gateway does not have yard tools, you must bring your own supplies.

*Due to privacy concerns, we will not be interacting with the moms and babies.

LoveLife Prayer Rally

Join others in our community by participating in the 40 Weeks for Life Campaign. This is a groundbreaking, coordinated international mobilization that, with God’s help, will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city — and beyond. This rally includes a time of worship, Scripture reading and testimony.

*Love Life participants do not interact with the Clinic Staff, Volunteers, Moms or Families. We will be there to pray for the moms, babies, clinic workers and families affected by abortion.

Providence has partnered with Life Life to become a “House of Refugee”.  To fulfill this commitment, we need to equip volunteers called to support expectant mothers/fathers who choose life for their unborn child.  Bring a “mommie gift bag”* or unwrapped “baby shower gift”* for a newly expectant mom  and then join a virtual training session to explain “House of Refugee” commitment.

  * Mommie Gift Bag and Baby Shower Gift Ideas/Suggestions will be provided

Raleigh Police Department — Domestic Call Trauma Kits

Providence partnered with the Raleigh Police Department to sponsor lunch during their Summer Camps for “at risk” and refugee children this past Summer.  During our conversations, one of the two great needs they identified was their desire for “Trauma Kits”.

Trauma Kits:  The Child & Family Service Unit has dreamed of having “a trauma kit” to offer children when officers are called out on “domestic abuse/violence” calls.

This project would be an awesome opportunity for families, Life/small groups, social clubs, etc to join together to provide the requested items.

Reach Your Neighbors/Community

Baptists on Mission – Disaster Relief*

Baptists on Mission is actively serving all across North Carolina in Disaster Relief. Volunteers are still working to continue the “rebuild phase” from Hurricane Florence.  This trip is expected to be focused in the NewBern area, however, the location may change.  Lodging and Food (Breakfast & Dinner) are included. Volunteer teams will work under the direction of a Providence CityServe Project Leader, John Day, and Baptist on Mission (BOM).

*This is an overnight event, friday, September 30th – Saturday, October 1st.

Details: Leave Raleigh at 2pm Friday.  Caravan to the site hub  to arrive and get checked in for the night.  Saturday morning, after breakfast, you will receive your assignments for the day. Those who can remain, will be given additional assignments for Sunday.  Others will return Saturday afternoon, typically home by Dinner.

First Responder — Blessing Bag (Police, Fire Department, EMS)

During our many conversations with First Responders and their families,  we have heard that they are all in desperate need of support from the community.

You could join others in offering much needed encouragement by providing a blessing bag.

Reach out to your local precinct, regional offer, or division and find out how many blessing bags you would need to cover their office.  Join with others from your families, Life/small groups, social clubs, etc to provide a blessing bag.

Providence will provide bags, water bottle/or campfire mug, pen and an invite card.  You (or your Group) add a handwritten note of encouragement, snacks, treats, candy, a gift card for breakfast, lunch, coffee, etc.

Adopt-A-Park Litter Clean Up

A great way to get family, neighbors and small groups together for an impactful morning of cleaning up a local park. You can choose your own park.

Adopt-A-Street Litter Clean Up

A great way to get neighbors together and make some changes is to organize a neighborhood or highway cleanup. Serve your own community by defining a few streets which need some care and attention to clean up litter.  We will provide streets in need of cleaning or you can choose your own area.

Random Acts of Hospitality

Using the website, Bless Every Home, gather data on your neighborhood. Make personal contact with FOUR new people in your neighborhood. Invite neighbors over for a backyard bonfire and engage in conversation on how to get plugged into your neighborhood and Providence.

  • Complete a registration form including your address and subdivision name.

  • Utilize the B.L.E.S.S. model to engage these new neighbors on an ongoing basis.

  • Providence will provide a small gift and invites to share.

  • Prayer Drive-Thru can be done in our upper parking lot
  • We will provide signs to your location and any supplies you might need
  • You get to pray with individuals who need some hope and encouragement!
